It was just yesterday that I said we might not see Captain Atom again in the DCU. As soon as that post went up, fellow Captain Atom fan Anthony Saavedra pointed out that the New 52 Cap appears in the Justice League United online sneak peak! Below is the one image of Cap that we got:
This does not necessarily mean he is rejoining the Justice League. Captain Carrot is on this page too, and I can’t imagine they’d add him to the roster. And that’s Bizarro right above Captain Carrot, and I seriously doubt he’s going to be a team player.
As Shag pointed out on Firestormfan.com, Firestorm also appears in this sneak peak but it is also unclear if he’s a regular. Could we have an Extreme Justice reunion on our hands? Do we want one?
I’m just happy to see he’s still out there and DC hasn’t forgotten him.

Splitting Atoms 
I’m glad the New 52 Captain Atom is there. Really liked that crazy story of his and really enjoyed all 13 or so issues of that story. I’m looking at that picture however and thinking “Who are these characters?” Was also thinking that maybe Convergence will be my swan song for collecting anything DC going forward. A nice nod to what was but probably never be again.

How do you not know who these characters are? I see Shazam, Blue Devil, Stargirl, Apollo, Mary Marvel, Ice, Fire, Steel, Black Lightning, Orion, a Green Lantern, Equinox, Hawk, Dove, Phantom Stranger, Booster Gold, Poison Ivy, Katana, Vixen, Captain Atom, ect

Well, to be fair, if someone hasn’t read tons of DC Comics, some of these characters might seem obscure. There were a couple in that panel I didn’t recognize offhand. And some of them have really changed since my hardcore comic collecting days of the 1980s.

That’s Shazam? Looks more like red velvet Elvis. Not crazy about the character designs I’ve seen in the New 52 and when I saw the new character concept and design for Adam Strange I said “That does it, I’m out!”

Seeing as Lemire wrote the future’s end issue featuring our beloved captain I can see him showing up in this book. Hopefully he will become a regular.

New 52 Captain Atom in a Justice League line up as powerful and unstable as he is? (Power wise) That would be interesting if not dangerous.
